MISLEADING SOCIAL MEDIA RELEASE ON RENEWAL OF EXPIRED FIREARM LICENCES
Dear member,
We have received important legal information from our legal advisor, Mr Juan Kotzé, in respect of the press release on social media today (07-11-2018), which stated that expired white firearm licences can be renewed.
Mr Kotzé states the following:
"I have taken notice of a “media release” doing the rounds on social media today stating that the High Court has made an order in terms of which expired firearm licenses can now be renewed.
This is unfortunately not the correct legal position. This fake news is based on the interim court order that was given on 27 July 2018 by Judge Prinsloo in the North - Gauteng High Court, Pretoria, when he ordered that the Police should stop threatening firearms owners whose white licenses have expired without it being renewed, with prosecution or to accept their firearms for destruction pending the outcome of the main application."
You can read the ful text of Mr Kotzé's warning in ENGLISH - en hier in AFRIKAANS
Please be sure of the correctness and factual basis of all information shared with you in any social media messages before you send it on to someone else.
Kind regards
