Natshoot joins PHASA in acknowledging and thanking the minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment for the release of the recommendations of the high level panel of Experts, appointed by her to review policies, regulations and legislation with regard to the Hunting, breeding and trade in Elephant, Lion, Leopard and Rhino at a function on 2nd of May in Pretoria.
The recommendations from the panel form a substantial document, approximately 600 pages containing 18 goals and 60 recommendations.
Natshoot is not able to comment on the document right now, as the document needs to be studied first. The challenges and potential ramifications and possible unintended consequences need to be fully comprehended and the implications and effects it will have on its members established before the formal position of the association is expressed.
The report has been met with varied and mixed reactions. There are certainly recommendations that we do not agree with and will handle them in due time.
It would also be premature to express views before the department's implementation road map is announced.
