We have asked Adv Henry Cowley to inform us of the legal implications of the procedures SAPS has implemented in their Directive regrading submission of new licence applications against lapsed licences (see our Newsletter Vol. 18(12) of 6 July 2022 in re the specific SAPS Directive)

What is important to remember is that SAPS have indicated that they will not criminalise persons who hold firearms with lapsed licences.  We therefore urge members who might have firearms with lapsed licences to take advantage of this situation and to apply for new licences (remember your competencies must be valid as you are applying for a new licence).
